Mad Tea Party POV Magic Kingdom Walt Disney World

The Mad Tea Party is a classic spinning tea cup ride featuring the wild characters from Walt Disney’s animated film, Alice in Wonderland. The ride was inspired by the famous “Unbirthday Scene” from the 1951 film, where Alice first meets the Mad Hatter, March Hare and of course the adorable Dormouse.

The Mad Tea Party was an opening day attraction at the Magic Kingdom on October 1st, 1971. It has remained relatively unchanged since opening nearly five decades ago. The attraction was also an opening day attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California on July 17th 1955. The original attraction was designed by Disney Imagineer Mary Blair (also known for her work on the classic ‘it’s a small world’ attraction.) This attraction can be found in nearly every Magic Kingdom-style park around the globe. The only exception is at Shanghai Disneyland, where the park features a Winnie the Pooh themed version of a classic tea cup spinning ride instead.

The Mad Tea Party is located in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in between the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction and the Tomorrowland Speedway. If you are a big Alice fan, you can also meet Alice herself, usually along with the White Rabbit, just in front of the attraction in the morning hours of the park. Located just next door is also the Cheshire Café, which serves various beverages including coffee and frozen beverages along with muffins and other light snacks. FP+ reservations are accepted for the Mad Tea Party and disabled guests using a wheelchair or ECV must be able to transfer out of their chair onto the ride. There are no height restrictions to enjoy this attraction, but guests under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a guest 14 years of age or older.
