It's time to take a ride on the 'Highway in the Sky'. The Walt Disney World Monorail system is a staple in Disney history. The original monorail that opened in Disneyland in 1959, was the first of its kind in the western hemisphere. The Florida version, first opened on October 1st, 1971 along with the Magic Kingdom. The current trains running on the Walt Disney World Monorail are the Mark VI trains and are over 200 ft long.

The Resort Monorail system runs clockwise around the Seven Seas Lagoon. It usually begins operation 30 minutes prior to the Magic Kingdom's opening time and runs until about an hour after closing time. The trains on this route run all day stopping at 3 hotels and of course the Magic Kingdom. The journey begins from the Ticket & Transportation Center then travels to Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Magic Kingdom and Disney's Contemporary Resort in that order before returning again to the TTC. Guests will strollers can roll right on to the monorail without folding up strollers. Guests in a wheelchair or ECV also can remain in their vehicle without transferring when riding. **Please note that security now takes place at each resort's monorail station prior to arriving at the Magic Kingdom.
