The Country Bear Jamboree is a Walt Disney World original. It is a classic Disney, audio animatronic show that celebrates the various forms of country music in America sung by a cast of comical and original characters.
Country Bear Jamboree was an opening day attraction at Magic Kingdom on October 1st, 1971 and was classified as a ‘D-Ticket’ attraction and has remained relatively unchanged since opening 45 years ago. However, the show has seen several different versions over the years both in Florida and at Disneyland in California. The Florida version is the only Country Bear attraction still in operation in the world and has returned to the original show. Disney Imagineer Marc Davis was working on the characters for a country music animatronic show up until the death of Walt Disney himself. Davis remembers the last day he saw Walt and it was a day that Walt saw a few of Davis’ sketches for the Country Bear characters. The show was originally being considered as a stand along show for a Disney built resort at a national park in California. Many Americans criticized the idea, claiming that a corporate built resort hotel had no place at a national park. After Walt’s death, Davis and Imagineers wanted to see this unfinished concept see the light of day in Walt’s honor. Therefore, the Country Bear Jamboree was one of the first approved attractions for the Magic Kingdom.
The show has lost popularity despite it being a Magic Kingdom original. Over the years, the show had several seasonal layovers during Christmas and the peak summer seasons. However those seasonal versions no longer are shown. The attraction is always a walk on experience with very little wait and sows takes place every 15 minutes or so. Fastpass+ is not offered for this attraction and it is not necessary. This is a great attraction, however, to escape the heat or rest your feet. The show can be particularly entertaining to very small children while they wait for their older siblings to get off Splash Mountain. Otherwise, this is a great show for the ultimate Disney World nerd who is into hard core nostalgia.
